SUPREME COURT RULING – FRIDAY

Last Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court’s decided to overturn state bans on same-sex marriage. Republican State Rep. Bryan Terry of Murfreesboro and Republican State Rep. Andy Holt of Dresden are working on a draft of the bill designed to protect religious clergy from …READ MORE

Author’s Note:  The bill is called the “Tennessee Pastor Protection Act” and it’s function is to provide legal protection from being forced to perform same sex marriages on church property, in addition, to protecting clergy from having to perform same sex marriages.

First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This decision of the U.S. Supreme Court’s to overturn state bans on same sex marriages will undoubtedly bring up redefining marriage to require others to change their deeply held religious beliefs.  Therein lies the line which believer’s in the Body of Christ are going to have to stand fast!

Gen. 2:22-24

22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman, ‘ for she was taken out of man.”
24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

If the main reason for the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court’s to overturn state bans on same sex marriages is equality of civil liberties and benefits then this should not infringe upon the doctrinal beliefs of those of faith.  Also, if the intent is for the people of the same sex marriage community is to have the above mentioned it needs to come with the understanding that the faith community “will stand fast” in unity according the Word of God.  The First Amendment allows for each community to have the freedom of speech!  I have a simple question:  Why is both sides of the camp fighting, filing law suits and promoting discrimination/race charges?? The Faith Community believes the en errand Word of God and that marriage is between one man and one woman.  Yes, God’s Word speaks against same sex relationships.  Why is it that the people of the same sex community “can not” accept the fact that this what the Faith Community believes and holds to be Truth!  People of the same sex community have been given what they sought to be their right.  On the flip side of this comes the need “within” the same sex community to understand that the Faith Community will not bend to accepting their beliefs as to what constitutes a marriage.  Speaking to the Faith Community:  We as believers in the Body of Christ are to “stand firm” ( 1 Cor. 16: 13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.) in sharing the Word of God in love, peacefully and by demonstration of the love of Christ.  There will be a day of accountability on both sides of the isle. We can not force someone to accept God’s Word as that is up to the individual to make that choice.  But we of the Faith Community are responsible for being about our Father’s business and and run the race which as been set before us (2 Tim. 4:7 have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith..).
